Mimosa, the harbinger of spring on the Princes’ Islands, is a plant native to Australia. It was brought to Büyükada in the 1800s by an English lord and, over time, adapted to the islands’ climate, becoming known as the “Island Mimosa.”
 
It is also believed that its seeds and saplings may have come from the Koch or Deroin Yenne greenhouses in Istanbul.
 
With its delicate fragrance, it enchants both the islanders and visitors alike.
